I've tossed this idea around before. I've had it for a few years now, but I've decided I should finally do this. What I want to do is write a TV show done in the style of those drama shows aimed at Tweens like DeGrassi and Beverly Hills 90210, but set in the Cthulhu Mythos.
The show will take place in Miskatonic University, and follow a group of freshman who all have ties to the Cthulhu mythos. For example, there will be a girl named Whateley (Hehehe), a boy named Marsh (double hehehe), a kid adopted from Tcho-Tcho's, and a science major who invents a serum that reanimates the dead. They will balance the mundane aspects of life in a stupid teen drama as they deal with Mythos-based problems like cults to Cthulhu, alien visitors recording everything we do, and maybe even a pregnancy caused by The Black Goat In The Woods With A Thousand Young.
I think this is an awesome idea, but I can't do this alone. First, it dawns on me that I've never even watched one of those drama shows. To do this right, I'll have to not only watch them but STUDY them. Find all the formulas needed to make a successful show, and warp them into the Cthulhu mythos in just the right way. I can deal with Dimensional Shamblers, Mi-Go, and Old Ones, but for the love of crap, I can not stand an episode of 90210 without help. It is far too horrific.
So, is there anyone in the Baltimore area with a good knowledge of the Cthulhu Mythos who wouldn't mind gathering together somewhere and sitting down to watch some of these drama shows so we can dissect them and make a kick ass, hilarious parody? This will only be the first of many battles.
The rest will probably be writing the actual show, pitching it somewhere, and getting the Lovecraft estate to OK the project. It may never get that far, but at least we'll have an awesome show that we can giggle about to ourselves. I think that's worth something.
You bring an open mind and a weird sense of humor, and I'll buy the beer.
