"Gula (meaning "great") was the goddess of healing and a patron of physicians. Her alternative title, Ninisina, simply means "Lady of Isin", and it was in this city that she had her main cult centre (E.GAL.MAH). Other temples to Gula are known from Borsippa, Aššur and Nippur - at the latter site, a shrine to Gula has recently been excavated by a University of Chicago expedition [Gibson 1990]"

For the uninitiated: I play in a Mage: The Ascension game, and my character, Alan Gibson (bani Hermetica!) has recently found himself as a servent of the goddess Gula. He happens to teach archaeology, though it is at Rutgers and not the University of Chicago. I love that character, and always imagine him as a cross between Henry Jones, Sr. and Doctor Who. Anyway, as I was researching Gula for roleplay purposes, I came across this and had a good laugh. It seems Professor Gibson is more familiar with Gula than I thought.
