So I've decided to cancel my FFXI subscription. I also quit WoW, but I wasn't as attached to that.

The thing that sucks about FFXI was that my role playing linkshell is awesome, and I hate to leave them. They're a fun group, and I do feel a little bit of responsibility to them. However, if I'm going to spend my free time playing a video game, I want it to be one that I enjoy. I simply do not enjoy FFXI. It's constant, non-stop grind, and the game doesn't even reward the player for that grind. It just creates more grind. I did enjoy the game at one time, but that was a long time ago. It's a game that requires hours at a time to do anything. I simply do not have that much time anymore, and can get nothing out of the game. It sucks that I never reached 75, and I never got to do dynamis, and sky or sea, and limbus, and everything that all of my in game friends did every night. I really did want to do them. But, I've been playing the game for almost three years. Looking back, all I remember are moments of awesome role playing, followed by hours and hours of mundane bullshit. It shouldn't have to be that way, and moreover, I shouldn't have to pay $15.00 a month to feel like that.

I already have to deal with copious amounts of banality as it is. It's called life.

So, to my FFXI LSmates, I love you guys. You've made my time in FFXI amazing. We can always be friends here, and on AIM, and just be general brothers and sisters in nerddom. You know that you can always talk to me, and I will keep in touch. It's just better for me if I leave and start pursuing other things. Maybe I'll feel differently in a future and come back. Not even Lady Luck knows her own fate, so I won't presume to know mine. Until then, may your cups be full, your rolls lucky, and your ammunition plentiful. And remember, fortune favors the bold.

Wind at your backs, mates.
