Okay, I've had an idea for a while, and I want to know if it's something worth pursuing. I've always wanted to run a website dedicated to horror. Not just a fansite for my favorite movies and books, but a site dedicated to the genre itself on an almost metaphysical level. I don't want to run a website about werewolves, zombies, and vampires. I want to run a website about the legends that surround them and their place in pop culture and the human psyche, including essays on why these things are scary to us. The site is really too massive for one person to maintain, so the idea is to make it a wiki. However, I'm not sure if something like that would be popular. I've seen some great wikis thrive (the Paranoia lexicon one, "The Toothpaste Incident" has me in stitches constantly), but I've also seen some really sad ones (like the Firefly wiki project). I don't want my project to be a sad wiki.
So, does this sound like an interesting idea?
Also, for that
oct31challenge thing, I've decided to write a fictional story about a real place I used to live a few miles from called Todd's Inheritence that was an extremely important part of the battle of North Point during the war of 1812. I've also heard stories of its haunting my entire life. It's going to be almost Lovecraftian in style, a first person narrative from a person who, for all intents and purposes is me, and is allowed to live in the house for a month as research for writing a book on the house. While there, he is driven to the brink by the angry ghosts that live on Todd's Inheritence, including a scared young girl running from her would be attacker, the young girl's British soldier assailant, a rebellious former slave, and a man who owned Todd's Inheritence during the 70's who committed suicide in the house.
I've got lots of material on this house. I think I can turn out a decent story from filling in the gaps between the facts on this house.
